School Complaints

School Complaints

As a parent you have a right to complain about issues that may occur at your child’s school. We can advise on complaints against schools and if relevant, complaints against the Local Authority in relation to education matters.

All schools have their own complaints procedures and policies, which are available to parents on request. We encourage parents to try and resolve matters with the school in the first instance. If the matter cannot be resolved at school level then other possible avenues to explore are the Governing Body of the school, and/or the Local Authority, the Secretary of State and Ofsted.

For Academies and independent schools then the procedures are different but as a parent you still have a right to complain. For complaints against the Local Authority in relation to an education matter you could have recourse to the Local Government Ombudsman (LGO) if you have exhausted the Local Authority complaints procedure and remain dissatisfied with the outcome. Please see our separate article about the LGO.
