Watkins Solicitors Attend St Johns Chambers Children Law Conference in Bristol

Members of the Watkins Solicitors Family Law team recently attended the Children Public and Private Law Conference hosted by St John’s Chambers at We The Curious in Bristol, bringing together family law professionals from across the region to discuss some of the most important and evolving issues affecting children and families.

The full-day conference covered a broad range of issues across both public and private children law, including domestic abuse reform, vulnerable witnesses, relocation disputes, post-adoption contact, allegations of sexual abuse, public law developments, and cases involving learning disabilities. The programme also explored the practical and emotional realities of working within family law, with a particular focus on supporting vulnerable children and families through complex legal proceedings.

The event featured a keynote session from Annmarie Carvalho, founder and CEO of TCC and author of Staying Sane in Family Law, who spoke about wellbeing, resilience and the pressures faced by professionals working in emotionally demanding areas of law.

A number of barristers and specialists from across the South West also contributed throughout the day, sharing practical insight and updates on developments in children law, safeguarding, domestic abuse, vulnerable witnesses, relocation cases and public law proceedings.

Attending conferences such as this forms an important part of Watkins Solicitors’ ongoing commitment to professional development, collaboration and client support.

Many of the topics discussed throughout the conference directly reflect the work carried out daily by Watkins Solicitors’ Family Law team, including safeguarding concerns, domestic abuse matters, care proceedings, relocation disputes and complex public law issues affecting children and vulnerable families.

The event also reinforced the importance of collaboration between solicitors, barristers, charities, local authorities and support organisations when supporting children and families facing difficult circumstances.
