We are delighted to share that Sophia Beekmann, Associate Solicitor in our Education Law team, has been shortlisted for Junior Lawyer of the Year at the Bristol Legal Awards 2026.
Organised by Bristol Law Society, the annual awards recognise excellence and achievement across the legal profession in Bristol and Bath. The winners will be announced at the Bristol Legal Awards on Thursday 5 November 2026.
The Junior Lawyer of the Year award recognises an exceptional lawyer in the early stages of their career who has made an outstanding contribution through their client work, their organisation and the wider legal community.
Making a difference for children and families
Sophia specialises in Education Law, advising parents and young people across a wide range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) matters, including Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), annual reviews, SEND Tribunal appeals and disputes around suitable educational provision.
Her nomination highlighted the difference she has made for families during the past year, including achieving positive outcomes in complex SEND cases where children and young people were struggling to access the education and specialist support they needed.
It also recognised Sophia’s contribution beyond her individual casework. She has helped improve ways of working within the Education Law team, supported junior colleagues and contributed to our work making Education Law more accessible to parents and carers through events, videos and practical online guidance.
Sophia said:
“I’m genuinely so pleased to have been shortlisted. Education Law is an area I care hugely about because you see first-hand what the right support can mean for a child or young person and their family. I’m also very lucky to work within such a supportive team where we share ideas, learn from one another and really care about getting the best possible outcome for the people we represent.”
Beverley Watkins, Managing Partner of Watkins Solicitors, said:
“Sophia has developed into an excellent Education Law solicitor and this recognition is thoroughly deserved. What stands out to me is not only the quality of her legal work, but the way she approaches people. She is thoughtful, calm and genuinely committed to the families she represents, while also being a very supportive colleague. We are extremely pleased to see her recognised in this way.”
