FASD Awareness Day: Watkins Solicitors stand with families and share local resources

Today is FASD Awareness Day, part of FASD Awareness Month. On the ninth day of the ninth month, communities across the UK wear red to stand with children, young people and adults who live with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, and to recognise the families and professionals who support them.

FASD describes lifelong differences linked to prenatal alcohol exposure. Every person is different. Awareness matters because understanding needs helps families, schools and services plan support that is consistent and respectful.

Watkins Solicitors has experience of working with parents of children and young people with FASD. Our expert solicitors help families navigate the difficulties this condition presents in relation to special educational needs and the bespoke provision required. We focus on practical next steps and clear communication so that families feel informed and supported.

We are pleased to be working with local groups, including FASD Southwest, to share useful information during Awareness Month. FASD Southwest have highlighted several useful resources:

1. FASD Informed' Shop of empowering products to support families and professionals

2. FASD Informed' courses for teams supporting those with prenatal alcohol exposure to support the NICE Quality Standards for FASD in training all that support FASD and to promote good practice with Ofsted and CQC

3. FASD series of legal webinars to support families and professionals supporting them, with the key areas of legal protection for those navigating the FASD spectrum. 'FASD, the law and 3 things you need to know!' 08 Oct 2025, 20:15 – 21:30

4. 'Ask the Expert' - FASD friend Consultant Clinical Psychologist Dr Cassie Jackson and husband Consultant Paediatrician Dr Neil Jackson, who bring a great balance and wealth of FASD specialist expertise to support questions and answers on psychological, physical health and medical aspects of supporting the spectrum of needs. 'Dr Cassie Jackson Consultant Clinical Psychologist and Dr Neil Jackson FASD Lead Paediatrician' 12 Nov 2025, 20:15 – 21:30
