Uber drivers get an early Christmas present

Uber drivers get an early Christmas present and win Court of Appeal case! After an ongoing battle to obtain basic employment rights, Uber drivers have finally been declared “Workers” thereby entitling them to the minimum wage and holiday pay. However, the battle continues as it seems Uber are now looking to take this even further and seek a ruling from the Supreme Court. With 3 rulings already against them, what are their chances? With around 60,000 drivers this could cost Uber thousands, if not millions in back dated holiday pay alone. With the government now proposing an introduction of its “Good Work Plan”, there could be more concrete changes to follow suit with the introduction of a new test for self-employed workers and additional rights granted to those with worker status. We will be back to update you with any changes to current employment legislation throughout the course of 2019 and look forward to reporting further on yet another appeal by Uber!
