New proposals issued by the Government to protect workers following Matthew Taylor’s Good Work Review. Could this be the biggest reform employment law has seen in the last 20 years yet? Proposals include workers’ rights (not just employees) to written terms and conditions from the outset and plans to restructure the legal tests used to determine employment status. Good news for workers but what about security for those working under a zero hours contract??? A recommendation has been made so workers can at least request a fixed working pattern but only after they have worked for a period of 26 weeks or more. Will such proposals take effect?
